Morgan Freeman has joined the support team of 21 celebrity motorbike riders who plan to spread the word of Mandela Day whilst embarking on a six-day road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

"I have put down emotional roots in South Africa," said Freeman.

He added "I have always felt close to Madiba having played him in a movie, and also having known him for a number years.

"It is a point of honour in one sense to be asked to take part in anything related to Nelson Mandela and I am very happy to be incuded in this road trip."

Freeman will not be riding a bike during the road trip due to the injury his hand sustained in a recent vehicle accident.

Bikers Jeremy Mansfield, his wife Jackie and Isindingo’s Jack Devnarain plus Bok van Blerk to mention a few, will be straddling an inspiring array of road hogs, but this journey is not all about leather clad babes, speed, glamour and chrome, the bikers will be spending time in various towns en-route where they will weed gardens, paint, donate blankets, plant trees and prepare food for disadvantaged communities as they spread Madiba’s love.

Mandela Day, July 18, celebrates the 92nd birthday of Nelson Mandela, and is a call to action for all South Africans to make a difference in the places in which they live and work.

Declared "Nelson Mandela International Day’ by the United Nations last year, July 18 is one day in the year that people across the globe can band together to serve the communities around them and work towards a better tomorrow.
