Conmen in Limpopo are going around soliciting money from citizens in a property scam bearing the name of ANC Youth League President Julius Malema.
Youth League Limpopo secretary Lebogo Jacob said that there is a group of people going around collecting money from people and promising them plots in a fictitious development called Malema Park.
Jacob said “These crooks who pretend to be community leaders, are robbing our people of their hard-earned money under the pretence of giving them land. They are collecting money from innocent people, alleging that they are going to allocate stands to them at the [fictitious] Julius Malema Park”.
Jacob said the youth league had been receiving complaints from people claiming the shysters simply disappeared once they had received the money for the make believe plots.
People claim they had been made to put down “deposits” ranging from R200-R500 from the self-proclaimed “community leaders. Jacob added in his statement that “We wish to put it on record that the ANCYL and its president have no relationship with these thugs and their illegal project”.
Limpopo police have denied any formal knowledge of the scam.
