Some wag said to me; “President Zuma and the ANC fear law-abiding citizens with guns more than they fear vicious armed criminals who have no value for the life of victims”. Try as I might I could not fault his logic. Criminals who are given largess by the government will vote for the government and will not bite the hand, which feeds them.
Unarmed victims must come at the top of any criminal’s wish list, safe areas to operate in a close second. Both must be like Christmas every day for criminals. The added incentive to government is that criminals will not expose themselves to undue attention from the police or government by complaining or demonstrating. They are ideal subjects, government could ask for no more.
Is President Zuma’s claim of firearms fuelling crime valid because government has produced no proof of this claim? Or is it hypocrisy in the extreme because the ANC is itself guilty of gross violations of arms, munitions and explosives laws.
The ANC smuggled into South Africa in operation Overland an estimated 40...60 tons of war arms and munitions. The agreement reached in the Malan Accord of handing over for destruction these vast caches of illegal arms, ammunition and explosives has never been carried out.
In fact the ANC refused to honour this agreement during the Goldstone Commission investigation into illegal arms by claiming that there was no evidence that possession of these arms and munitions caches contributed to any public danger. The SAPS made a similar claim that the evidence was unclear and not in the least positive that any danger was presented by the ANC’s illegal war material caches.
Thus the ANC government and the SAPS must have come to some secret agreement of non-prosecution for possession of these illegal arms, ammunition and explosives. The SAPS certainly can’t deny knowledge of the caches or who are in possession of the illegal caches, yet no arrests have been made and no caches have been recovered. What else explains the SAPS willingness to turn a blind eye to an open and shut case in terms of the Explosives Act and Firearms Control Act and instead harass law abiding firearm owners?
What is even more puzzling is that the ANC still refuses to divulge any details of the whereabouts of these caches, who is in control and what measures have been taken to safeguard and safe-keep these caches. While at the same time is willing to blame licensed firearm owners for fuelling crime and not safekeeping in a responsible manner their legally licensed firearms.
It is understandable that the public is rightly concerned about their safety, which if the SAPS and ANC’s claims of guns fuelling crime are true, shows a lack of integrity and public concern by the SAPS and ANC. Who is fuelling crime, the ANC or licensed firearm owners?
Can the ANC government please produce the evidence to back the Presidents claims of guns fuelling crime and explain what the ANC has done with the 60 or so tons of arms, ammunition and explosives it illegally has or had in its possession? Can the SAPS explain why the ANC is allowed to possess vast illegal caches of arms and munitions while the SAPS leave no stone unturned to prosecute citizens in possession of illegal arms and harass licensed firearm owners? Why the SAPS members and ANC members who have knowledge of these caches have not been charged and prosecuted?
