[ Reads:538 / Comments:0 / 326 ] Roy Jones Jnr. and Jeff Lacy clash for the North American Boxing Organisation light heavyweight title in a battle of two faded fighters at the Gulf Coast Arena in Biloxi, USA on Saturday night.
The 40-year-old Jones 53-5; 39 who was once the pound-for-pound king and the holder of nine various organisation belts ranging from middleweight to heavyweight faces a 32-year-old Lacy who once held the IBF and IBO super middleweight belts. Possibly the fight is getting more attention than it really deserves. In 2004 Jones suffered two bad knockouts against Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson and then in a return fight with Tarver was beaten on points. He subsequently managed to beat an overweight and faded Felix Trinidad and in his fight with Joe Calzaghe he took a sustained beating after having Calzaghe on the floor in the first round. Lacy was a promising prospect early in his career but never fought at the same high level as Jones. After losing to Joe Calzaghe, Lacy has never been the same fighter and last year was well beaten by Jermain Taylor. Also on Satuday night At the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas Steven Luevano 36-1-2 defends his WBO featherweight belt against Bernabe Concepcion 29-1-1 and on the same card Nonito Donaire 21-1 meets Rafael Concepcion 13-3-1for the interim WBA super flyweight title. In another “world” title fight Gabriel Campillo of Spain makes the first defence of his WBA light heavyweight belt against Beibut Shumenov 8-0; 6 from Kazakhstan at the Sport Complex Daulet in Astana, Kazakhstan.
