On a traditional day at Anfield when Red and Blue mix freely and soccer hopefully is the winner, Liverpool take on Everton in a match that should produce a real Premiership Special.
The Toffees have won their last three on the trot and not lost in 5 while the Reds have gone Win, Draw, Win, Draw, Win and are still without the services of Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun and Glen Johnson but could bring back defender Fabio Aurelio.
Everton have not won a Merseyside derby at Anfield since 1999 and David Moyes has a near perfect squad to choose from, with Louis Saha in outstanding form along with Steven Pienaar. Ayegbeni Yakubu and Joseph Yobo are back from Angola while Mikel Arteta is available again. I would expect Liverpool to win but a score draw is the more likely outcome. The match kicks off at 2.45pm (12:45 GMT)
On Sunday Arsene Wenger takes his team bus to Stamford Bridge where John Terry can expect no mercy from the chanting Gooners about his sexual exploits. After getting drilled 3-1 by United last weekend Wenger will expect more cohesion from his squad, which looked like a 1st division team against the polished United attack.
Chelsea on the other hand are coming off a mid week draw against lowly placed Hull City with only Didier Drogba able to find the net. I am sure that the off-the-field exploits of Skipper John Terry, who seems to be out to rival Tiger Woods, for scoring without his club colours on, will have an adverse effect on the team, especially if the chants get the better of Terry. I have a feeling in my bones that the wounded Gunners will give a spirited performance and may just surprise the Blues, which of course will see United stay top if the beat Portsmouth on Saturday.
With the Brothel story hanging around Avram Grant’s neck, he will take his beleaguered “Pomp”ey to Old Trafford, wondering just how to stem the Rooney tide which is bound to befall his squad at some stage. A Rooney hat-trick at least is what I would expect and Portsmouth to go down without a fight by 5 or more.
Roberto Mancini is off to Hull on Saturday hoping that his light Blues can do better than Chelsea did in midweek and that Tevez will continue his great goal scoring streak . Who knows with City they could beat United one week and lose to Pompey the next, so I am not sticking my neck out with the Tigers at play.
The other big match on Saturday sees the two Champions League contenders Aston Villa and Spurs go head-to-head at White Hart Lane. Both teams have underperformed in recent weeks, but are desperate to keep both Liverpool and City out of the 4th spot, so I expect a win for Spurs or a score draw.
The other matches on Saturday are all relegation zone battles as each of the teams playing could still end up there, though Pompey seem doomed to drop.
On Sunday Birmingham are at home to Wolves. Another important match for both teams as Alex McLeish tries to chase down the three or four teams above him and Wolves fight for Premiership survival. I give this one to the Blues.
