The 2009 Grammy Nominations

The nominations for the 2010 Grammy Awards were announced on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 during a live televised concert.

LL Cool J hosted the 1-hour concert and some of the performances featured were the Black Eyed Peas, Nick Jonas and Maxwell.

Presenters included George Lopez, Katy Perry and Linkin Park.

Beyonce got the most nods for the night with a total of 10 nominations, including Album of the Year for ‘I AM…Sasha Fierce.’
She also received nominations for Song of the Year for Single ladies (the soundtrack for the Vodacom add). Her song ‘Halo’ was nominated for Record of the Year.

Following very closely was 19 year old teen country sensation Taylor Swift with 8 nominations.
Her single ‘You Belong with Me’ was nominated for Record of the Year and Song Of The year whist her album, ‘Fearless’ received Best Alternative Music Album.

Swift whose album is the biggest seller in the United States in 2009 has never won a Grammy, while Beyonce is a 10-time winner in her solo career and in the trio Destiny's Child.

Both these Artists will compete with the Black Eyed Peas, Dave Mathews Band and Lady Gaga for album of the year.

Lady Gaga received 5 nominations overall including several for her single ‘Poker Face.’

The Black Eyed Peas were also nominated for record of the year for their feel-good song, "I Gotta Feeling," while the Kings of Leon were nominated for "Use Somebody."
The Kings of Leon hit was also nominated for song of the year, as well as Maxwell's comeback hit, "Pretty Wings."

The best new artist category was a diverse mix of British rock duo The Ting Tings, RnB singer Keri Hilson, country artists the Zac Brown Band, American alternative rockers Silversun Pickups, rock duo MGMT (formerly known as The Management).

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Grammys are determined by about 16,000 voting members of the Recording Academy, whose choices are guided by artistic merit rather than commercial appeal.
