Brangelina brightest stars at Super Bowl as the Saints go marching in

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie silenced rumours of their impending split at the Super Bowl while the New Orleans Saints finally got rid of their unwanted tag of "the Aints" at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami last night.

The men in black and gold came from ten points behind to tear out the hearts of Indianapolis when Tracy Porter intercepted a Peyton Manning pass intended for Reggie Wayne and returned it for a 74 yard touchdown. Deep into the 4th quarter, just 3 : 12 left on the clock and two touchdowns needed to rescue it, the Colts knew there was no way back.

Head coach Sean Payton and Drew Brees - the Saints quarterback who was rightly voted MVP - showing the same kind of resolve that saw the city of New Orleans painstakingly fight its way back from first Hurricane Katrina and then Hurricane Rita, to clinch the national title 31-17 and nobody but the most ardent Colts fan would deny them that victory.

In 2005 those two hurricanes had almost completely destroyed the city and forced many of it's residents to take flight. Around this time a quarterback whose career had been ravaged by injury was given a chance by the Saints coach where most had shied away.

Neither city nor quarterback inspired much hope of better things to come.

Last night all of that changed when Drew Brees and New Orleans, in perhaps the most romantic fairytale ever told in gridiron history, transformed a city and a player into something a bit special and banished the clouds that had been hanging over them, forever.

The fans in the stadium and those back home from Bourbon Street to the Lower Ninth Ward went wild with delight as finally New Orleans had made national and international news headlines without being on the end of a disaster.

The stadium in Miami was filled with stars from all over the USA and fittingly none brighter than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They have made the city of New Orleans' recovery one of their primary goals, even buying a $3.5million 1830s house in the historic Louisiana city, so when the clock ran out there was no greater joy than theirs. They did however also use the opportunity to kiss and cuddle throughout the game in order to ensure that their private message got home to the media.

They were not alone by any means.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes attended the game with three-year-old daughter Suri and Tom's son Connor, 15. Part owners of the Miami Dolphins Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony would not miss a local game.

Kim Kardashian had to be there because her boyfriend Reggie Bush was part of the winning Saints team.

Then there was Hilary Swank, Jamie Foxx, Harry Connick Jnr, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and a whole lot more.

The halftime entertainment consisted of Queen Latifah, who sang America The Beautiful with a children's choir, the Who and 2005 American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, who performed the American National Anthem.

But the Super Bowl and the evening belongs to the city of New Orleans and its wonderful franchise, the Saints, who brought home the trophy and AINT nobody gonna laugh at them no more.
